Engaging Students with the Career Express “Let’s Get Hired” 2016 Conference

T.D.H. United was represented at the 2016 Career Express "Let's Get Hired Conference." Tamika D. Holmes, shared career education information with the students of the program. This is a signature summer program for the Alabama Department of Rehabilitation Services in partnership with Easter Seals of Birmingham. The conference was held at Lawson State Community College's Bessemer Location. For years, the staff of ADRS has provided a platform for youth to receive exceptional career readiness training before starting their summer job. The weeklong conference covered topics such as Teamwork, Getting and Retaining Employment – with emphasis on their “individual” contribution to the process. The students participated in a weeklong of workshops which helps them prepare for careers in the workforce. Tamika's segment covered The Interview & You - (Good vs. Bad Mock Interviews.) This segment encompassed engaging participation of the students capturing their insight on how to interview. Tamika conducted 4/45 minute segments during this timeframe touching the lives of 80+ students which were selected by their school counselors to attend the conference and will come from schools across Jefferson County.
